about

This album is a collection of ten different studies done both on electroacoustic composition and sound manipulation techniques (sound design). The title "nastro" (tape), wants to reveal the mission of the compositions: which is to create music pieces through the sound manipulation of the only audio material coming from a single reel of magnetic tape. At the same time it also wants to indicate the artisan and manual approach to the electroacoustic composition, such as the one used in the early days of electroacoustic music.
The music pieces want to convey the sense of restlessness and the Unheimlich that is felt when we are trying to look at ourselves from a critical distance which, in regards of these compositions, is facilitated by the temporal distance that separates our way of enjoying music, as well as our own memories.
This mechanism arises from the interest in the relationship between man and machine/ technology in general, which in this specific case it sees as protagonist an artificial memory support.
From these machines shines through a humanity that is directly proportional to the importance they had in our life, shaping customs and traditions derived from our relationship with these modern technologies, which although close to us , they now appear awkward and unusual, but still familiar, even though it’s a familiarity nevertheless unrecognised. It is our conscience that opposes its recognition and therefore the condition of familiarity, which exists anyway and when it emerges it disturbs us at the very moment in which a crack is created between us and our conscience.
